What is a BuyBack?
Myschoolbookstore offers a BuyBack program which allows you to sell back your eligible used books to us at the end of the school year.
What books are eligible for BuyBack?
Most hardcover textbooks which your school determines will remain in use the following school year will be eligible for BuyBack.
What books are NOT eligible for BuyBack?
Books that will not be eligible for BuyBack include, but are not limited to the following:
- Titles your school decides will no longer be used (unless those titles happen to still be in use by other Myschoolbookstore schools, in which case we may still be able to buy them.)
- Any consumable books, such as workbooks, lab manuals, and study guides.
- Novels and Bibles.
How does a BuyBack work?
To take advantage of the BuyBack program, simply submit a BuyBack request through the Myschoolbookstore website. After the BuyBack request is completed, ship the books along with the BuyBack form to our warehouse (for details on this, see the "Where do I take my books once I've finished with the BuyBack request?" section below.) Upon arrival, we will appraise the books to determine their condition. Based on this appraisal, we will issue a credit for qualified book received for the amount indicated in the BuyBack request process (and shown on the BuyBack form). We will then email a Credit Voucher code to you. Use the code to apply the credit towards your next textbook purchase (if you will not be returning to the same school, we will mail you a check - see section further below about if you are a senior.)
How do I submit a BuyBack request?
You may submit a BuyBack request through the Myschoolbookstore website. To do so, just follow these instructions:
Click on the BUYBACK tab (or the "My Account" link at the top of the page) - this will take you to the "My Account" page. Under the BuyBack section, click the "Begin a BuyBack Request" link. Follow the instructions on the screen and the instructions provided by your school.
Where do I take my books once I've finished with the BuyBack request?
- If you selected the Individual BuyBack option:
- Print the UPS Return Label that was provided.
- Pack your books in a strong cardboard box using packing material to ensure the books are not damaged in shipment (use Styrofoam peanuts if possible or crumpled-up plain paper- do NOT use newspaper).
- Place the BuyBack form print-out face-up on top of the books so it is visible when we open the box at our warehouse.
- Seal the box with packaging tape.
- Cut-out or fold the UPS return label as needed, and tape it to the top of the box.
- Take the box to your nearest UPS Store.
- If you selected the Campus BuyBack option:
- Take your books and BuyBack form to your school's BuyBack event
- Your school will provide information on where and when the event will take place
- Someone at the BuyBack event will assist you in placing your books and BuyBack form in a bag and a it will be closed up with rubber band
- You will be directed where to place the bag
When will I receive my Credit Voucher code?
Once we have received your books and appraised the condition of them, we will update your BuyBack to show the appraised conditions and an email will be sent to you. This process may take approximately 2-3 weeks after you have sent your books.
How do I check the status of my BuyBack?
You may check the status of your BuyBack at any time by signing into the Myschoolbookstore website, clicking on the BUYBACK tab (or by clicking the "My Account" link at the top of the page). Simply click the "Check the status of a BuyBack" link in the BuyBack section of the page.
Can I submit a second BuyBack request?
You may submit as many BuyBack requests as you like up to 14 days after the last day of school, but it is better to try and include all the books on a single BuyBack because each separate BuyBack will create a separate Credit Voucher code. Although you may enter as many Credit Voucher codes as you wish on a future order, it is easier to have the full credit on a single code.
How do I redeem my Credit Voucher code?
You may redeem your Credit Voucher code by entering the code in the appropriate box during the order check-out process.
What happens if I do not use my Credit Voucher code or there is a credit balance left on the voucher?
A few weeks after school starts we will cancel any outstanding Credit Voucher balances and issue a refund check to you in the same amount.
I am a senior (or I am not returning to the same school next year) and do not need a Credit Voucher because I will not be placing an order next year.
If you are a senior or are not returning to the same school next year, check the "Not Returning" box near the end of the BuyBack request process. Rather than issue a Credit Voucher, we will mail a refund check to you. Checks will be mailed by mid-August.
How do I find out if my school will be hosting a BuyBack event on campus?
Contact your school for information regarding a possible BuyBack event on campus.
What if I show up to the BuyBack event on campus but lost or forgot my BuyBack form?
The online BuyBack form will also be emailed to you, so if you keep it and you have access to your email and a printer while on campus, you may print it again. Otherwise, you will need to submit a new BuyBack request and change it to an "Individual BuyBack". Read "What if my school is not hosting a BuyBack event?" below for more instructions.
What if my school is not hosting a BuyBack event?
If your school is not hosting a BuyBack event, simply select the "Individual Shipment" option. You will need to print out a UPS-pre-paid shipping label and box your books with a copy of the BuyBack form and drop it off at a UPS store.
I am ready to place my order for next year but I did not receive or cannot find my Credit Voucher code.
Check the status of your BuyBack to be sure we received it and processed it. If more than 3 weeks have passed since you sent in your BuyBack and it still does not show on the website as having been received, please contact us.
Why was a book not accepted?
Books sent in on a BuyBack must at least meet the minimum standards set for a Thrift condition book to be accepted for credit. Appraisal of each book's condition is at the sole discretion of the Myschoolbookstore staff. Any books appraised as being below the standard set for a Thrift condition book will not be accepted. You will be notified by email of any unaccepted books. You can either have us dispose of the books or return them to you at your expense. If you elect to have us return any unaccepted books back to you, we must receive your request within one week of the email notice.
